Sneaking mechanics?

New ninja, learning the ropes!

Need some clarification on the sneaking skill:

1) If I am sneaking, do I need to actually sneak (crouch) for it to work?
2) Does crouching still have an effect on enemy detection?
3) Does my character get better at sneaking overtime? Assuming I am doing it right, my character SUCKS at stealth!

If you're referring to the sneaking skill, it auto sneaks you when you move full speed
