Bug Holy Aura & Smite bug

It seems there is a bug with holy aura, or maybe it is smite, one of the two. I encountered a zombie in my town and used Holy Aura then started to attack it. When it got to about 180 health I used smite which left it at 50 health because my Holy Aura damaged it at the same time. However when It was hit with both spells a second zombie spawned in the exact same place.

1.6.2 thing, hit a zombie, another has a chance to spawn, that's why do many more people are dieing if zombies nowadays.

As Dusk stated, this is a new Minecraft mechanic. Nothing to do with Heroes.
