In minecraft version 1.4.6 fireworks have been released. I was thinking of fireworks in herocraft when i thought of this skill:

Skill name: Flare
Skill given to: Scribes? Pyromancers? *shrugs*
Description: Allows use of fireworks. You send a flare into the air alerting your allies that you need help or to give them directions to where you are. Can be seen from 500 blocks away so be carful on where you set them off.
